HiGh School 3-Day Camp

Letter to Campers and Parents

You are receiving this message because you or your son/daughter will be attending the Sunday School camp this Friday June 12 to Sunday June14 (or are serving with us at the camp). Hope you/your kids are all excited about the camp this upcoming weekend. God willing, we are looking forward to having a great weekend in Christian Fellowship, fun, and enjoying the outdoors. We will be camping at Yogi Bear Campground in Caledonia, WI

.

4 Key Points (TL/DR):

  • Liturgy attendance on Friday is mandatory
  • Phones will be collected each night (and given back to you in the morning)
  • No excessive rough housing
  • Pay attention the attire section below (for both boys and girls)

Theme

We have a great theme this year “Called to be Saints” and we will discuss that we are all already saints and can have the courage to live to that calling with love, boldness and service. We have about 50 kids and 15 servants and we look forward to having a great time altogether.

Liturgy & Departure

First of all, we are blessed again this year to have a special Liturgy for us on Friday - the day we are leaving. Please make sure that you arrive at church early Friday so you can take advantage of the Liturgy. The liturgy starts at 9:00am and will be finishing by 11:00am. Please be sure to wear church clothing (no shorts) for the Liturgy. If you cannot attend the Liturgy due to a conflict, you must let me know in advance.  Also, if you are not leaving with us on the bus for some reason, please check in with me to confirm the reason. After Liturgy, we will pass out sandwiches for lunch, pack up and then leave church on the bus by Noon. We will be returning to church on Sunday by 3:00 or 3:30pm God willing.

Activities

Remember that this is an opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities and fellowship with one another - we do not want the youth to be staring at screens. Electronic games are not allow. Phones are not needed either; but we will allow them, but they should be used only to communicate with parents or to take pictures. Kids will not be allowed to use their phones overnight. At this campground, nearly all activities are included in the fee and there is no extra cost, so your child doesn’t really need any cash. We recommend $20. Anything more than that is not needed and they just waste it on junk food.

Proper Attire
This is a church camp and we are asking all those attending to dress appropriately as Christians. This is very much inline with our theme and that we are God's children different than the world. Below are guidelines for appropriate attire and the actions that may be taken for attendees who do not adhere to these guidelines:

  • Shorts must reach the mid-thigh. (This applies to both boys and girls)
  • No crop tops or spaghetti straps
  • No short / revealing clothing
  • Bathing suits must be one-piece suits that are not low cut.
  • If you are out of the water, then you must cover up in shirt/shorts. No walking around in bathing suits. (Again, this applies to both boys and girls)

Proper attire is required all weekend. Actions taken if the above rules are not followed:

  • First time, child will be given something else to wear
  • Second time, parents will be contacted to come get them

Parents, please check your child’s packed bag to make sure they have packed appropriate attire for the weekend.

Packing List

See below for a list of things to bring and not to bring. Please call or email me if you have any questions. Please do not send large bags or suitcases with your kids due to limited space in the tents.  A small bag like a backpack or dufflebag should be more than enough for 2 nights.

What to Bring:

  • Bible (do not forget!)
  • Agpeya (optional, we will have prayer handouts)
  • Sleeping Bag (or two warm blankets) and pillow
  • Flashlight
  • Clothes for three days and two nights including a light rain jacket/hat, a swimsuit, towel, and pair of long pants
  • Bathing suits must be modest and appropriate for a Christian gathering (no 2 piece bathing suits for girls please)
  • Personal grooming items including toothbrush, toothpaste, soap & shampoo (bring your own rather than assuming you can borrow from someone else)
  • Sunscreen
  • Water Bottle (so that we don’t have to use 1000 disposable cups!)
  • Mosquito repellent (VERY IMPORTANT)
  • Money- $15 should be more than enough for the weekend. No one should bring more than $25.
  • Games and sports equipment (optional).
  • Fishing rod and gear (optional).
  • Facilities include swimming pool, waterslide, basketball, volleyball, game room, fishing, boating, mini-golf, playground, playing fields.

What not to bring:

  • Electronic games
  • Pocket knife, switchblade, numb-chucks, slingshot, bow and arrow, etc.
  • Fireworks, firecrackers, blowtorches, matches, lighters, etc.

NOTE REGARDING CELL PHONES: Mobile phones are permitted, but are only to be used for phone calls to/from parents or to take photos, and are the responsibility of your child to keep track of. If your child is found using the phone inappropriately, it will be confiscated and one of the camp leaders will hold onto the phone until the end of the trip. To limit phone use, and also because of limited outlets, we will not provide charging of cell phones. Your child should make use of airplane mode and powering it down to save their battery for when they do wish to use the phone for pictures or communication. Also, phones will not be allowed at nighttime and will be collected by the servants and returned in the morning.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me.

Thank you,
